| 08/20/2002 06:21:00 PM | The death of anxietyby MelGrahmComment: This photo is kind of disturbing to me. For a couple of reasons. First, your name is on the bottles along with a RX refill number. Second, it is depicting a suicide. That's disturbing all on it's own, and the person in the photo looks young. I took a second look and realized that your address wasn't on the bottles, nor a pharmacy phone number, so that gave me the hope that you made up the labels. Also, I noticed the wedding band and kind of got a chuckle. Any married woman, I think, can relate. Not to the suicide, but to the need for nerve pills. Setting that all aside, the photo is nicely done. Lighting is great, the b&w helps add saddness. I almost wish I could read the whole letter, but I think that the important parts are clear. "Darling, I love you, and I am sorry" is what I can read, and that really is enough to get the point across. There is a soft focus which works well in this photo. That also adds to the saddness. Disturbing, yet very nicely done. after getting over the initial shock of this, it is a well executed photo. Nice job and good luck in the challenge. |
| 08/20/2002 07:04:00 PM | Green Mountain Boys Defend Ft. Ticonderoga From Mongol Hordeby GeneralEComment: Only think missing is the green tent. LOL This is just great! We laughed hard at this. I like the touch of the plant in the background. Gives me the idea that someone's still hiding back there. Very creative and original. Great job and good luck in the challenge. |
| 08/25/2002 01:18:00 PM | Hard No. 2by TomNTexasComment: The lighting for this is a bit dark for me, however it fits the "theme" of this photo. There is definately a pencil in the photo. Focus is good and the angle is ok. I might have backed it up a bit to include the rest of the hair, other than that, pretty good photo. Good luck with the challenge. |
| 08/21/2002 10:47:00 AM | Morning Ritualby KathycComment: Very nice. I like the entries with puzzle books. My grandpa always had one with him. It reminds me of him. Great focus. The lighting is very good, and the angle is also good. The dark spot in the upper left is almost distracting from the photo, but without it, it might look kind of funny. With it, you can tell it's an entire book, and not just a page. Good sharp pencil. Great job and good luck in the challenge. |
| 08/22/2002 04:11:00 PM | Lips Say It Allby CreativeFlyPhotoComment: Perfect pencil. Right along the same lines as what I was thinking. I like the angle and the focus. Very nice. Not sure if you did the shiny reflection on purpose or not, but I mayb have tried to tone it down a bit. But that's just me. I know a lot of people like glare. I like the tan background with the brown-ish red lip pencil. Very nicely done. Good luck in the challenge. |
| 08/23/2002 05:12:00 PM | Pencil à la Sushiby NeroComment: Wow, at the clarity of the sushi. Makes me want to eat the stuff even less now. LOL. Great placement and excelent angle for this photo. Looks like a sushi ad. Lighting is great and I like how the foreground is crisp in focus and the background has a soft focus. I also like the adition of color on your part, with the placement of the objects in the background. Great job and good luck in the challenge. |
| 08/23/2002 04:15:00 PM | v .00by GordonComment: I don't understand the title, and I looked it up on the internet and couldn't find anything except that v.00 stood for Volume 00. Oh well, this isn't a title contest, so who cares if I don't get it. Also, there is an Administrator's Note that there is not border and it's legitimate. I have no idea what that means either, so again, who cares. Neither has to do with the photo it's self anyway. Which, by the way, I like very much. I like the angle and how you have the contrast with the tip and the erasers. The lighting is great and placement is very nice as well. Only complaint I might have is the strange shadow under the erasers. looks strange for some reason. Overall great photo. Good luck in the challenge. |
| 08/22/2002 01:22:00 PM | The Photographer's Museby JakComment: Neat picture. I seem to be drawn to the shavings cause it seems like it's in the spotlight. The lighting is great for this photo. I like how it's light and dark. The glass kind of bothers me cause it looks like it's going to tip right over. I like the angle of the photo though, so I don't know if this was avoidable at this angle. The only other thing that distract me is the water ring on the table behind the glass. At first glance, I had been wondering about the angle of the pencil and the side of the notebook that the writing was on. After some though and having my left handed brother write something out for me, I realized that the view is only different to me cause I'm a right handed person and this is (or was set up to look like) written by a left handed person. So although it seems strange to me, my brother didn't find it strange at all. even if it were written by a right handed person, the way the pencil is set down with the point facing north west actually proves otherwise. So, not bad for a lefty. :) Great job and good luck with the challenge. ~Hbunch7187~ Aha!I figured out why I was bothered by the whole left handed thing. (sorry, couldn't let it go) The ANGLE at which the photo was taken makes the notebook LOOK like it is turned in the direction for a right handed person, and the actual writing and pencil placement look like it was written by a lefty. That's why it bothered me, however, the notebook it's self is actually sitting parralel to the edge of the table, which would make the notebook straight up and down to the writer. It's just the angle that threw me off. Ok, I can sleep now that I've figured out what bothered me. Sorry to make it so complicated. I think I look too much into things. It is a great photo and I gave it high marks. Congrats and good luck. ~Hbunch7187~ |
| 08/23/2002 03:18:00 PM | Honey Do Listby YomiComment: Is that a roll of toilet paper at the top? lol. This is adorable. Definately has the aww factor in the pictures. The lighting is great. no distracting shadows or bright spots. You did a great job of keeping reflection and glare off the pictures and white board. I think I would have liked to see this fill the whole frame and be taken from straight above rather than at a slight angle. otherwise, great photo. Good luck in the challenge. |
| 08/25/2002 11:53:00 AM | pencil distortionby shutterflyComment: This is pretty neat. I love how the pencils bend and how you positioned them in a way that the colors are spread out. I lie the reds. There is a blue glare/reflection in the glass to the left, just over half way up. Don't know if that had something to do with the glass, the background or the lighting. You might have not been able to avoid it, but if it were possible to avoid, it might have been a little better without it. Overall very nice photo. Great job and good luck in the challenge. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
