Having some...um...issues with extreme heights...I know I couldn't take a pic like this. Nice shot. I'm glad ya didn't turn it into b/w like people like to do with NYC shot. I don't think that woulda been right for this shot!!!

I'm making an assumption here that because of the monuments subject that the monument is black. Given this....I think that this woulda been more powerful left in color because hues and colors in the reflections would make it 'blacker'. Focus is a little soft. The title I think in this case detracts from the image. The first thing I thougt while it was loading was 'duh' because the title is right there in the image. I don't usualy detract for title but in this case if it was title"____________________ memorial" I woulda had more feeling for it...

I don't get it....Where is the freedom that is fading??? What is the machinery that we are looking at??? This is a cool name, cool concept (fading away of our freedoms) but don't see freedom here because the subject is an unknown variable... If it was a typewriter or a gun or a bible (church, cross, insert religious symbol here) and all else was equal, 8 or more....this doesn't get that though.

Very nice contrasts in colors on this one. I love the way the cold beer (you know it's cold from the condensation) feels warm and fuzzy compared to the cool blues of the sea and sky.

The angle is very unique and helps to capture the reflection of the sun making it once again seem a warm and fuzzy feel. DOF may be just a touch off. The base of the glass seems a little soft on focus. Otherwise very nice DOF composition.

Oh one subtle flaw... The glass isn't centered on the coaster but very minor point

OK...Thought about it and here goes...

First of all I'm givin' ya x1.5 for creativity and for the effort!!! This is probably the most original shot I've seen in my short time here!

For how tight it is cropped the DOF is a little off! Bottom lip, excellent focus, top lip too soft. Pores on the upper right kinda distracting.

I really think this woulda been much more powerfull of a statement if it wasn't cropped so tight.

The only other thing I would bring up is that the flag doesn't cover the tounge.

(wiping away a couple of tears and swallowing hard twice) This is the hardest comment I have ever tried to leave on a picture and also the third (maybe fourth) time I've made this attempt. Please don't think I'm a troll if you don't agree, I'm trying to be as objective as possible considering the emotion that this shot brings to many viewers!

This is an awesome shot. I love the cityscape background (which incidently includes the WTC)! The DOF is IMHO brilliant. You got the birds on the dock, the dock and (once again IMHO the best part) two gulls in the air coming in for a landing!

Your choice of using B/W is again brilliant. I don't know what it is about NYC pics and B/W. They just seem to go together!!!

You did an AWESOME job of capturing a moment in time from a MUCH more innocent time in American history (some might dispute this...the innocent part that is but oh well)

I do have a problem with your discription of this shot though. It really isn't a picture of the WTC. It is an awesome shot with WTC in the background! (can't type when I can't see from the tears!) This doesn't detract from the shot though. (I feel like this anytime I see a shot of the towers. Has anyone seen 'Searching for Bobby Fischer'??? I tear up every time I see the park scene with the towers in the background.) Rather it captures what everyone in the world thought of as an ICON of NYC, and thus USA, pre 9/11! How many shots have you REALLY seen that were REALLY about the Towers???

If I was scoring this shot (without a theme involved [and trying not to think about 9/11]) I would give this shot a 9! And I don't give out 9's frequently!
