We are currently trying to find members in the Central to Northeastern Pennsylvania area for a get together. The talked about location is Rickett̢۪s Glen State Park. I know it has a beautiful waterfall. The location and date for this get together is really open. At this point, other than myself, my wife and daughter, I know of only 2 others in driving distance. If anyone is in the area and is interested, please let me know and maybe we can organize something.

That's about 3 1/2 hours away from me. I might be interested if the date and weather are favorable. |

That's dedication! Wow! I was thinking an hours drive might be a lot but 3 hours.
Hey, scalvert, if you live anywhere near Trumble, CT, you can pick up a few dozen jelly donuts at Francis's Bakery before you drive in. I will give you the money. Yummmm. They are the best in the world.

Eh, I like meeting other DPCers. I once drove 2 1/2 hours after work on a weekday to have dinner with Hopper and Kosmikkreeper. I've met DPCers in California, Kentucky, Washington D.C., NYC and Germany.
Trumbull is the next town over from me. ;-) |

Depending on date and time I'm interested. I'm just outside of Philadelphia, so that makes it about 3 hours away for me.
Also, for those who are interested and want to map it you can use the zip 17814 in Google maps to get close.

What date and time are you thinking of? Depending on the specifics, I might be able to make it down from Binghamton, NY. It's 2 hrs. from here, which isn't too bad. I'll watch this thread and see what comes of it.

I'm planning on a long weekend up that way, but not until its warm. I've had enough of the cold to last me for years...

I'm about 2:30 away and am probably interested, depending on date. All things being equal, Saturdays are better for me than Sundays -- though I can do a Sunday too, given enough notice.

Here is a link to the official Rickett's Glen State Park site. I didn't know this, but it has 21 waterfalls. This could be really interesting.
Rickett's Glen State Park
There is a notice on the web site:
As of December 5, 2006, THE FALLS TRAIL IS CLOSED TO ALL EXCEPT: 1. REGISTERED ice climbers. or 2. Properly equipped and experienced hikers (minimal equipment includes crampons, and rope- ice axes are recommended).
We may have to wait on this one until the spring thaw.

How about this, if you are interested, then PM me. I will try to centralize a list of people interested, and then we can decide on the best day/time where most of us can make it.
Wooo hooo! A Pennsylvania DPC GTG.

I'm not sure where that park is located, but I'd be up to join in if the time and date are right.

I am in southeastern PA but if the date/time is good will try to make it as well.
Of course, this would be rather funny if Scalvert comes as it'd be the first time we'd get to meet (considering I lived in Connecticut for years until very recently). *lol* |

With all the snow there might be some very nice water falls...
My guess, the falls trail is likely a trail that leads up the falls. Likely so you can look down. As such, I'd imagine it is not necessary to climb that particular trail. Though we do need at least enough thawing for water too flow. ;)

I will ask a guy I work with who lives right next to the park to check on the status of the trails. There are 21 waterfalls on the part along a 10 mile hiking trail. Last I heard it was only allowing seasoned ice climbers with proper equipment through. I will try to find out more.
I know the trails are dangerous to walk on when it's nice out.
I will keep you updated here. I also have a collection of DPC'ers that are interested in trying it. Over the weekend, I will draft a plan out.

I'm interested in joining those who would like to have a GTG there.. I visited the park when I was a kid and I didn't appreciate it as much as I would now. Any tentative dates?? |

I think it's a little over 3 hours for me (Altoona). But if the day works for me, I'd definitely be willing to make an effort to get there.

I'd be interested if anyone in the Philly area could give me a ride. I'll split the cost of gas since it's getting ugly again. |
