With lows below freezing through Tuesday and highs only in the 40's after that, I don't see much potential for change. :-( |

I may be able to make it. Couldn't be there April 15th but can for May 6. |

First weekend of May is not good for me either. I'll be at a wedding on Saturday and one on Sunday. I think Sunday May 13th would be good though, but is that mother's day?
I'd really like to go to the GTG if I can. I think it would be a lot of fun. |

Indeed, I just looked at the weather and see that you're right :-(
Since the floor is open to suggestions, I did a quick search and found that these three parks are relativly close to Rickett's Glen. (Mapquest lists them as being within 45min to an hour's drive from Rickett's, although coming from Binghamton, the total time and distance are about the same as just going to Rickett's.)
World's End State Park
Nescopeck State Park
Frances Slocum State Park
I've never been to any of these, and none of them have waterfalls like Rickett's, but they do appear to have some nice features and might be fun as alternatives.

We'd likely still have the same issues with weather to consider. I am thinking sometime in May may be best. (okay, that was just a weird sentence to write. Two may's followed by two be's...*lol*) |

Indeed, with the uncertain weather, it sounds like we have a lot of maybes. ;-) |

Sure, pick on me :) I'll have to see about May 6th. I may be able to do that instead, but I probably can't do both dates. |

Seems like everything is blamed on the president these days. ;)
j/k
I see little reason for changing the location as opposed to the date:
a) if things are frozen at one they're likely a similar mess at the other
b) if one goes not for the falls, then one might as well go to the original destination as I am sure it has more than just falls.
But I think pushing the date back a few weeks will mean easier access, more greenery & flowers, warmer weather, etc. Of course we still have no control over the weather so it could always rain, but isn't that the problem with GTG?
I tried to do one in CT and the weather forecast said rain, rain, and more rain. The actual day wound up being gorgeous and sunny. With gorgeous clouds. Go figure...I shot alone! |

I really thought this would be easier. I just called the Park again and talked to a worker there.
There is a trail called "Evergreen Trail" with what the park worker described as the most beautiful waterfall in the park called Adam's Falls. It's in the park, but on the other side of Rt 118 really close to the road. Also there are many other trails open.
A map is available at:
Map of Rickett's Glen
If you open the map, look at the section of the park that Rt. 118 passes through. It says Adams, 36' (I think that means 36 feet high)
There is parking called "Evergreen Parking". I say we meet there on Sunday, April 15th, at 10:00am. Who's with me?!!!!
If the other trails are open, then we go to them also.

I'm with you! I figure that even if that's the only falls we can see, then there's still bound to be enough other things worth shooting in the park to keep us busy for a good while. Just from looking at the map, the lake and marsh areas look promising.

Just for reference World's End State Park is beautiful, doesn't have the waterfalls like Rickett's but a nice place for pictures...
I might be able to make it if anyone's still thinking about May 6th.

That's exactly what I was proposing before :)
The GPS coordinates/map I posted earlier are for that parking area.
And yes, Adam's Falls is 36 feet tall.

Sounds good to me.
If everyone who is going wants to PM their cell phone number to me, then I will reply back with mine. If you don't feel comfortable with that, then 10am at Evergreen parking lot.
Side Note: Am I now responsible to PM everyone the updated plans again, or should I trust that they read the thread here to see how this thing plays out.
Side Note II: Maybe DPC should setup some kind of system to help organize a GTG with calendars, voting, schedules, agendas, etc.

I wouldn't worry too much about PM'ing everyone... I would imagine anyone planning to go would be keeping up with the thread. I would strongly encourage everyone to forward cell phone numbers to Tony, though. It sure does save a bit of frustration when everyone is standing around waiting for that one person who doesn't show up on time, and you don't know if they're stuck in traffic somewhere, or if they've blown the event off entirely... |

I talked to Spydr. We plan on meeting at 10am on Sunday, April 15th in the "Evergreen Trail" parking lot. The only thing that will stop us are floods or natural disaster.
Everyone is welcome to meet.
If this isn't called a DPC GTG, that's ok. We can have another one when the weather is nicer and we are sure everything is open.
If started getting some cell phone numbers for the people coming, and will reply with mine to them after I get some dinner. Anyone can always call me that morning to confirm.
Edited for spealing.

If people from DPC are getting together than it's a DPC-GTG ;) |

It is supposed to rain most of Sunday as of now anyway. If that's the case I most likely won't be at the races, so if it's still on I might be out.

I keep on checking the local news web site forcast for Sunday. It keeps teetering between snow showers and rain showers. The site I have been checking is www.wnep.com
Also, on the Weather Channel, it says 40% chance of showers. I am using my own zip code of 18707.
I will still go. Maybe there will be a break in the rain to get a few shots, but it is really depressing me.
What does everyone think? Should we cancel until warmer weather comes. Should we try it and have another one, when all the trails are open and it's really nice outside.
I really hoped that the snow would be gone.

I am still planning on going unless the weather is horrible or if everyone else bails. 40% chance of rain means 60% chance of not rain and overcast is perfect for shooting waterfalls. |
