God help me, I'm reading photography books now.
Actually, I'm enjoying the hell out of:
Bystander: A History of Street Photography by Joel Meyerowitz and Colin Westerbeck
An excellent artistic survey of the genre of street photography, going all the way back to the impressionist painters and covering everything from the early hobbyists to the great photojournalists of the 20th century. Lots of Cartier-Bresson, Lartigue, Atget, Evans, Levitt, etc. |

"In The Moon of Red Ponies" James Lee Burke A decided 10
One of my all time favorite authors.....a true wordsmith and a master storyteller.
His art at creating reluctant, tortured heroes is second to none.

| The Road by Cormac McCarthy. Fascinating post-apocalyptic story. Lots of tedium, despair, fear and, above all else, hope. Makes you think. |

THE FAST FOURIER TRANSFORM
- E. Oran Brigham
Finished reading it yesterday. Throughly enjoyed it. Fantastic book. Will recommend it for reading.

Didn't think I would enjoy it, but I did. feel good story. |

"Liar's Poker" by Michael Lewis
My boss gave me his copy so I felt obliged but it kept me engaged and I actually learned a couple of things.
and before that... "The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao" by Junot DÃaz - which was at least a nine. |

| The White Tiger by Aravind Adiga. Funny and enlighting - 8. Right now I'm reading The Book of Negroes by Lawrence Hill, not even close to The White Tiger. |

| Nelson DeMille and his John Corey books, "Plum Island", "The Lions Game", "Night Fall" and "Wild Fire"...books so good I continued with a different character in DeMille's Paul Brenner with "The Generals Daughter" and at the very moment.."Up Country"..highly recommended. |

Glamorama by Bret Easton Ellis: 7.5/10
Ok, Easton Ellis sued Ben Stiller after Zoolander came out for basically stealing his idea but making it a comedy. The main premise is a group of international models who are terrorists and how one main character begins and ends in the industry. It's dark, surreal, slickly written and very disturbingly graphic in parts. Similar to American Psycho in its satirical stance but more concerned with the media and fashion than money and politics.
AN interesting read.

Crime and Punishment
i had to read it for school, but it actually turned out to be really really good. if you havent read it and dont mind reading about freaky and depression Russians, its the book for you:)
and i give it a 9/10

Whistling for the Elephants - Sandi Toksvig
10/10
I didn't expect it to be this good - picked it up for 75 cents at our local Salvation Army store - needed something to read. I usually buy books there and then bring them back once I'm done with them, only keeping the ones that I REALLY like - I read A LOT, so am very picky about what I keep and this one's a definite keeper.
From Amazon:

| Half A Yellow Sun - by a Nigerian woman who's name I couldn't spell even if could remember it. About the Biafran War but very readable and no historical bog down. Can I give more than a 10? |

Fine Just the Way It Is: Wyoming Stories 3 - Annie Proulx
Rating: 9/10
Ms. Proulx writes incredible prose. Her character development is outstanding, and she can really put you in a time/place. Her writing is not for everyone, though. Her plots tend to be dark and twisted, and often there are no clear protagonists. But very, very good stuff. |

Dr. Neal Barnard's Program for Reversing Diabetes.
A very informative book which, from what I have gathered so far, seemingly suggests that one can reverse diabetes by becoming a vegetarian.
I have followed the instructions provided so far and to date have reduced my blood sugars by half and with a bit of luck should be within the normal range within a few months.

I'm still reading The Zookeeper's Wife and give it easily a 9/10 rating. Diane Ackerman writes with great sensitivity and has captured this incredibly challenging moment in Polish history beautifully.

That's pretty impressive, would like to see you post some more down the road to let us know how it's going. Is this just for type 2 diabetes or all diabetics? |

Sunne in Splendour by Sharon Kay Penman
9/10
Book about Richard III. Almost 1,000 pages and I didn't want it to end.
Absolutely fantastic character development and gory battle scenes.

I've read everything by her that I can lay hands on, LOL. And yes, The Shipping News is among her best work, IMO. |
