Greetings from the Critique Club!

I agree with all of the compliments below!

This is a fun image that is very clear in its communication. The mass of yellow candies and the solitary red one makes a nice juxtaposition that is clever and fun. The lighting, along with the use of the bowl, further indicate the clique nature of the yellow candies. In a way, the fact that that they are all kind of blurred together gives them even more of a group mentality in the photo. You've chosen a very dark background, which really makes the Lemonheads and the red candy stand out. While it's a dark world, the yellow candies seem to be having their own fun! The solitary red candy is still enshrouded in darkness. I also like the little glares of light coming from the candies. This harsh lighting was, I feel, a good choice.

To improve the shot, many of the comments below are worth exploring. The main thing I would suggest would be to sharpen the focus on all of the candies--especially the yellows. Though being muddled together does give them a groupish feel, I think that this feeling would be accomlished even if they were in sharp focus. Other things to try: a lighter background may give a happier, tongue-in-cheek feel to the image while still making your "lonely" point, and a wider cropping may make the image easier to look at and navigate with the eye.

Hey, nice work! I look foward to seeing more of your images in the future!

Thanks,

David

Better focus is need on the yellow candy. Good choice of frame and vey good lighting. I would be too easy to blow the candy out.

I like everything except the amount of glare on the yellow candies. Diffusing the light might help.

Nice color and clarity, love the border, not crazy about the composition.

Fun idea! Yellow is very saturated and difficult to focus on. Thankfully, there is a red candy there too. Very clear communication of this archetypal situation.

Really neat idea! The yellow candies are very bright (so much so that it's a bit hard to find their edges, a tad darker might have helped). My eyes keep being drawn to the little red guy (nice job!). 7 Rob the Swash

The shine and soft focus of what I believe to be a bowl of lemon sour balls made them look wet, gooey and stuck together. Other than that, I really like this shot. Appears to show a mood with the simple use of candy. You had a really good idea in using the "intruder". The border is nice too. It pulls in the yellow color, making the red loner even more out of place.

good use of contrasting color here... I think this image would have a little stronger impact with some visible surface to keep it from looking like it's floating in space :) - setzler

Kinda like me in some of these challenges! Great focus. The yellow reflection on the bowl rim is a little unappetizing on the dark background. Perhaps some other background would have been better.

Nice concept. Much like my stranger in a strange land entry. Your composition is very pleasing. I think the saturation of the yellow may be a little high, but still makes for a nice picture. High marks! -danny

very clever and well composed...the dark background and foreground set the mood.

Very clever! You have a very good imagination, someting I lack completely! Very crisp and saturated colors. The composition is excellent. A very tight crop but it does work here. Just a tad too much glare from the lighting/flash on the tops of the candy. Be proud!

A little overexposed for my personal tastes. THe yellows are just a little too bright. The color of the red is good now. I wonder if the red would stay the same or even close if the exposure of the whole pic was turned down a bit.
