Looking for a creative take on candy and decided to incorporate a vegatable theme. I had candy corn in the house as we are getting ready for fall and halloween. The corn was not very accomodating - the corn didn't look very good after I put it on the ear, so back to the drawing board. I found some left over jelly beans from Easter (we don't eat much candy at our house!) and needed a wrapper. We are having asian tonight and I found these great snow peas...the luck of creative dining!.

I cut and removed all the peas from the peapods. I placed the jelly beans in a random order inside the pods. I set up my home studie (two tungsten table lamps, three sheets of white matting for frames, and my tripod. I set up the shot, took some images and realized I needed a little glisten - in comes the trombone spray bottle. I added a few last loose jelly beans and shot 20 or so shots to get the right composition and lighting.

Opened RAW image in CS2 - adjusted exposure, levels and curves. Save as JPEG. Opened in Elements 3.0, adjusted levels, increased bri/cont, adjusted single colors in Hue/Saturation, and added noise ninja for smoothing and minor sharpening. Cropped and resized to 600. Save for web. Opened and USM at small radius to sharpen. Added border. Dodged shadows and some darker jelly beans. cloned out edge of stem, edge of jelly bean and blemish on one bean. Save.

Projection: 6.2+ - decent image - good colors and composition.

Post Challenge: Thanks for the abundance of comments. I really appreciate all of them, especially those that made suggestions on ways to improve. I realized that it was too bright when I looked at my image on my computer screen at work after the voting started - oh well! Top 10 is great...

IMO this image is: brilliant, beautiful, colorful, & perfectly executed. I love the bright background and highlights, it's in my face! I actually love peas like this, but I wouldn't resist some jelly beans mixed in :-) I see this big and bright and on a kitchen wall. The more I look at it the more I like it!

AH HAHAHAHA
NOW I have the picture to prove to my 5 yr old son that it is Vegetable Candy! I told him that is what green beans were the first time I tried to get him to eat them, now it is just a running joke....but he likes them.
Nice work!

I have to say this worked on so many levels for me, concept, delivey and technicals

To me it is amazing how your photography seems to have recently taken that next big step forward and I admit that you now leave me trailing in your wake (I think that first ribbon is just around the corner)

A very cute idea :) The glare from the light is a bit too much. Looks as though the light was brought in really close and not diffused at all. A plain piece of white paper paired with a longer exposure would've given off softer light.
