WOW...it's amazing how so much can be said in a single picture

Gordon, This is really a great concept and well done. I admire your work! Grayce
10/07/2002 12:00:00 PM
Quite possibly the best photo I've seen on this site. Well composed... lots of style... creative... thought provoking... unexpected... deserved a higher finish... much higher.
10/07/2002 07:39:00 AM
If it wasnt for those LMVs this would surely have been a winner. GREAT shot - and in my opinion a reflection on the past is a valid interpretation of this challenge.
10/07/2002 01:10:00 AM
this is a wonderful image. you have a great eye for art, Congratuations on placing so high. could have won too.

Superbly done, great lighting and idea. If you could have made the exposure on the top hand as light as it was on the bottom, it would've been perfect.
10/06/2002 01:26:00 AM
Interesting picture because I really had to think about what your title meant. I noticed right away that the bottom hand does not have a ring, which means this picture is not a reflection. I see that you have chosen a different interpretation of the challenge, and since I got the message - 7.
10/05/2002 11:44:00 PM
Very creative...nice job
10/05/2002 10:09:00 PM
I like the concept and some photos are better B&W and this is one! very nice
10/04/2002 11:19:00 PM
I like your picture and your imagination.
10/04/2002 08:00:00 PM
good visual puzzle or mind tease if you perfer
10/04/2002 01:39:00 PM
Jolly good show old man. 10 - floyd.
10/04/2002 12:52:00 PM
This is a very interesting shot, but the only actual reflection is very small (in the wedding ring) and nearly impossible to see. If I am missing something and there is another reflection here, please set me straight ~ Myqyl ~
After a third (or forth) look, I'm beginning to think you are trying for a personal reflection (ie. thought, contempation). And while that's not obvious (at least to me) I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.
10/04/2002 12:24:00 PM
Very cool indeed! I think that a landscape format would have been even more striking IMHO.
10/04/2002 11:07:00 AM
Lovely! Nice shapes, would have been a great neg space entry too! LOL. Like the highlights on the wedding ring. Without the ring it wouldn't be half as good, so I see the wedding ring as a real focal point. I find it a fraction too dark overall in the skin tones for my tastes, but that's just my preferences.

i like the lighting and toning on this image. mag99

This is a great shot. So close to a perfect "reflection," but not quite perfect... what were you trying to imply with that? :) - 9 - JB

UPDATE:
This definitely made it to a 9 for me. Great work. 9.

ORIGINAL COMMENT:
Recently married then? Congrats! I like this image. The B/W decision is a good one. I like the use of negative space and the way the darkness kind of hugs your hands. Okay, it's not an exact reflection in the sense of creating a replica in a reflective surface, but it meets the challenge in two ways for me: 1) reflection in the sense of thought given to a topic -- this image shows reflection on the changes marriage brings to a life. 2) It mimics mirror reflection as defined above, which I think is a creative interpretation of the challenge. Well done. 8-9, just-married (That means I'll be tweaking this score one way or the other later.)
10/03/2002 11:37:00 AM
great shot..congrats!
10/03/2002 11:02:00 AM
this is not a reflection.THIS IS CALLED " M I M I C R Y " !!!
10/02/2002 09:54:00 PM
Very creative!
10/02/2002 09:35:00 PM
I like this a lot.
10/02/2002 09:05:00 PM
Wow, you almost got me! I was studying the picture trying to decide what you used for a reflective surface. I assumed it could not be a mirror....then it hit me.
The ring! I think this is an outstanding photo, however IMO it is not a reflection.
10/02/2002 08:51:00 PM
Iknow there has been some controversy over this shot but I really like it. I looked at it a long time before the ring told me "the rest of the story". The lighting is perfect, I'm sure it was a tough shot to get. I'd be interested in the story behind the shot. DPz
10/02/2002 08:16:00 PM
Strong image! Great composition, technically sound. I really like the juxtaposition of the missing ring in the apparent reflection.
10/02/2002 03:56:00 PM
Great idea. Almost missed it at first, but you have done some awesome work here, I think. karmat
10/02/2002 03:32:00 PM
i lke it cause its not really a reflection.
10/02/2002 03:24:00 PM
normaly I would grade low because it doesn't meet the challenge(no refelection) but your title saves it. Wonderful idea.
10/02/2002 12:04:00 PM
Obviously there is no true reflection here, and I would like to see one. I do credit your creativity, but I can't give you the 8 that I would like. 7 nards656
10/02/2002 10:14:00 AM
This would be part of the broad interpretation of the word "reflection" !! Interesting concept though. I like the b&w (or desat) of the shot, and the composition is interesting as well. Moderate to high visual impact for me. (Great Neg Spc shot!) lhall-8
10/02/2002 08:05:00 AM
it took me a second to get it. but i get it and it works. nice photo.
10/02/2002 04:38:00 AM
Nice try. Put a ring on the other hand and I bet you would've fooled many people. And it might have fooled me too, because I'm in a hurry, but now I see that the lines are different. Very imaginative, though. Great idea.
10/01/2002 10:10:00 PM
A reflection it is not. Nice illusion though. Better luck next time.3 Autool
10/01/2002 06:04:00 PM
Very good idea. This is more than a Reflection without mirror, is a Reflection without a reflection. I like this photo.
10/01/2002 02:27:00 PM
Great B&W. The black is just really black and I like that. Though the bottom hand isn't the reflection of the hand on top it is still a reflection. Like it alot. (8) -arnit
10/01/2002 12:51:00 PM
Wow. I like this. The ring finger on top is slightly hot, but I like that, since that is the finger that we're "highlighting" so to speak. 9 kathleenm
10/01/2002 10:31:00 AM
Ohh the past... oh the single life... : )

very cool idea. my first 8.
10/01/2002 08:22:00 AM
beautiful............
10/01/2002 12:16:00 AM
Awesome B&W, perfect "simmetry" (except the ring!)... That's without mirrors alright!
09/30/2002 11:59:00 PM
Okay, I think I figured out how this was done. If I'm right, is this a true reflection? In any event, it's very clever.
09/30/2002 07:59:00 PM
interesting use of the meaning reflection. while this is obviously not a physical reflection, it is a mental reflection. the photo is self is taken very nicely with just the right lighting and the angle and framing/cropping are also nice. Overall a really nice shot! Good luck in the challenge. ~Hbunch7187~
09/30/2002 07:01:00 PM
what a great idea. this photograph has so much meaning. i like it! superb lighting.
09/30/2002 06:56:00 PM
Very clever!
09/30/2002 05:12:00 PM
a very simple yet artistic reflective pic!!!!
09/30/2002 02:44:00 PM
Nice trick, but wouldn't this be a right and a left hand? Was the EXTRA glare on the ring finger on purpose? (great touch!) 9 Swash
09/30/2002 01:54:00 PM
I like it. Nice work. I wonder what the reflective surface is? Good luck in the challenge. Grayce aka Gracious
09/30/2002 01:46:00 PM
even though this is not a reflection, I think it's a GREAT shot. I love the abstract idea you have presented here. I can't imagine a better interpretation :) = 10 - setzler
09/30/2002 12:56:00 PM
well done. almost fooled me
09/30/2002 12:16:00 PM
When I saw the thumbnail of this, quite frankly I thought it would be a fairly boring use of a shiny worktop. But it isn't; the ring really makes the picture work to perfection. Great drama, great composition and subtle use of absolutely no reflective surface whatsoeverâ€Â¦ Tops (10)
09/30/2002 11:33:00 AM
VERY GOOD IDEA!!!!
09/30/2002 10:29:00 AM
Extremely interesting composition, although I fear most will give it less than it desrves.
In my opinion, this should be one of the top 3. -Dimitrii
09/30/2002 08:30:00 AM
wow, great clarity for a reflection. well done..whoa just realized the missing ring on the lower hand. There is definately more than meets the eye here!
09/30/2002 06:53:00 AM
What a creative shot with good impact. Hummm, yummy work. Score 8 Justine
09/30/2002 01:10:00 AM
Very creative idea. Top marks from me :) 10
09/30/2002 12:27:00 AM
Nice picture, but not a reflection
