Initial thoughts
Nice square composition and quirky angle.
Composition/ Content
Has the cute factor and it’s great that the squirrel is looking right at you – that eye contact definitely adds impact. I like the square ratio and I also like the diagonal of the tree in the foreground, which is balanced by the squirrel with his tail leaning the opposite way.
Background
Some of the snow seems to be a little blown out and without detail though it’s good that the detail shows around his feet – kind of anchors him.
Camera Work - Technical
Well captured – great to get such good composition when you only had a moment to take it incase he moved.
Digital Processing - Technical
His nose and mouth area (the pink and yellow) seem very saturated to me – is that the real colour or is it pumped up a little in post processing. Since I don’t often get close to squirrels I am not sure!
Fits The Challenge
How could it not?
Your Opinion On The Photo
I do like the image, I think it̢۪s composition is particularly strong. It̢۪s not one I̢۪d hang on my wall but I would think about buying and sending it as a post card. Especially in the square format.

Cool shot, and what a cute little pink nose! None of "our" squirrels would ever let us get that close! I like that you kept the tree in the shot instead of having the little guy just out there kind of "floating" in the snow. 8 |

This is a really great capture. Not every technical aspect of this pic is perfect. The perspective of peeking out from behind the tree is excellent and makes this photo as great as it is IMO. The squirrel sitting there all fat and looking like he's responding to the photographer is adorable. Like he stopped to say "cheese" like a kid. Nice Capture - Inspzil |

I really like the perspective of this shot. It would have been a totally different photo if you hadn't had the tree in it. The "expression" on the squirrel's face is priceless! |

Wow, cute!!! It looks like you have a low res camera or you cropped this a lot, but that doesn't worry me. What an adorable, pink little nose :). The composition couldn't be any better, the DOF works well to blur the tree trunk and draw your eyes to the squirrel. The snow in the background has just enough texture and colour variation to avoid being stark, but isn't a distraction. Very good work :). I'm giving it 10 for pushing all the right buttons so well. |

Funny shot! Looks a little fat! I love the tail, it looks spooked, but the end is so ratty! Killer funny. The mouth and nose seem a little to red/rosy/pink, but the rest seems very well colored. 8 Swash |

Cute little fatling! Good color capture here. Although the color is minimal, the pink of his nose and mouth are evident, as well as the golden browns of his ears and face. The tree being out of focus bothers me a bit. I want to see the detail in the bark, but I understand how quickly you must have had to capture this moment.
His tail is quite interesting. I've never seen one like it in all the many squirrels i've seen.
I love that I can see his feet and toes. You really captured a lot of his detail. Good job! |

Great head-on shot, and the DoF on it is good. However, it feels like the shot has been over-sharpened, and that some of the detail has been lost because of it. |

very cute critter! This is quite a nice catch... I think this shot *may* be even stronger if you cropped out just the squirrel and left the tree trunk out maybe? Just a thought... great shot :) - setzler |

Something just does not seem right here. Speckles, or something. Like little purple spots on his back, around his eye, and on the tree bark. The photo its self is adorable. I like the angle and framing/cropping are good too. Focus seems a tad off, but that could just be a product of those speckles. I really like the angle though. He's looking at you like "dude, get out of my tree" lol. Is that a squirrel?? He looks so huge and has a funny tail? Good luck in the challenge. |

Good photo. The white of the snow isn't over saturated. Great expression. I don't know who was colder, you or the squirrel. Nice shot. |

The choice of prespective is excellent; this image makes you relate to the subject and the environment. The detail and colour are perfectly preserved, and do give out the wibe of a playful winter day. Great job! |

He is the cutest. What did you bribe him with to get him to look at you like this. :) The color seems a bit off like there is a red tint to it because of the tale color and nose color. This would have been perfect if you could have got just the squirrel and left out the tree. |

The color might have been upped a little too much, it seems to have blotches of really bright colors where they shouldn't be. also a bit grainy, but overall not bad. |

very nice composition and good exposure. i like that the tree is included. it looks like there is some kind of white effects around the claws and the two things on top of the snow, but it's not real bad. i wonder if the tail got that way because you startled the squirrel. good color with the pink nose and white snow. goodtempo |

A great shot, and a wonderfully captured moment. The tree in the foreground is distracting, and I can't figure out why the squirrel's fur is so washed out. The tail especially looks like there was a lot of sharpening and/or color correction and it looks unnatural. Way to grab the moment, though....this is a great capture. |

Very cute. I love how his little nose and tongue are so hot pink. The little piece of leaf or bark to the left of him looks like a curved arrow pointing at him....which is odd. |
