Everything here looks just fine, your lighting is great, coloring looks fine, I like the whites of your eggs, and your border is great, but your angle of the photo just doesn't appeal to me. Just my taste though, nothing wrong with your photo, that's just me.

Composition is good, nice idea for the photo, certainly meets the Challenge.
Visual impact is pleasant to the eyes. Focus is good except that the celery sees out of focus, Lighting looks fine but there's a bit of harsh light coming off the onion, Color seems just right and the black background seems a good choice.
Question: Why enlarge everything so big? Why not leave it smaller and add more vegetables?

Hi Paige,
Critique by Silver Fox

First, let me congratulate you on this photograph. It scored pretty high on the Challenge and proved to be a favorite.

The composition is excellent and has great depth of field and contrast.

The colors are excellent with the blue sky and hills in the background and then the buildings of the City and the blue waters of the bay.

In my opinion being able to get the color of the steel cables into your photograph were an âextraâ for the viewer to âseeâ.

Unfortunately for me, I did not see this the first time around, and I only gave you a four.

I also think the addition of the Steel Column at the right is a magnificent show of power and strength.

Focus: thereâs nothing to say, everything is fine, the cables look softly in focus, the steel column is great and everything else is just dandy, a great job.

For lighting â what can one say, itâs a daytime shot, the sun is out, thereâs smog around, you do the best with what you have, and thatâs
exactly what youâve done here.

Iâve checked your home page out and you have some great photographs there, so keep up the good work and keep having fun. Hope this piece of work finds a place on a wall in your home.

Regards,
Ed

Ps. Please start giving us your aperture/shutter info.as it would help a lot in our critique's. Thanks

Ducks Under Bridge
Hi Rachel,
Critique by Silver Fox.

Your composition is quite good here with good depth of field and a good idea for the Challenge.

The Visual impact is pleasant to the eyes of the beholder when looking at your picture. The rushing water heading towards the bridge gives
the ducks motion as they keep themselves heading upstream..

Focus is quite good, and the lighting seems fine for a daylight shot.

Your choice of Color seems okay, sepia tone appears just right, wonder what this would have looked like in colour.

The addition of the ivy hanging from the bridge gives the photograph something more to look at, however, because the theme of Challenge was âBridgesâ you may have been better to back up about 10 feet and given us a better view of the bridge instead of concentrating so much on the three ducks. They would still have been in the photograph, but not have been the âmainâ subject.

The bridge looks like it has some beauty to the ârailsâ and it would have been nice to see more of them.

Now when you cropped your photograph, what happened to the bottom right hand side, what is that white washed out piece? Could you not have taken that out? Or is that why you had to come so close with your camera and lens to start with?

Overall, you've taken a nice photograph to be proud of and you've done a nice job of it too. With a little practice, you'll be pulling out 10's in no time.

I noticed that youâve just joined the DP Challenge, so donât take this critique personally.

Itâs only your first entry. Take some time and look at the other photos in the Galleries, and then shoot some more and some more and I would enjoy seeing some more of your work next week and the week after that too.
And remember to have some fun while you learn. . .
Sincerely,
Ed
