From my living room window, we had sunflowers (now on the dead side) outside. The various LBJs (little brown jobs, per my wife) have been very busy visitting the flower heads for seeds. The cats and I can sit for hours enjoying them! (window splat!) On rare occations, the house finches get brave enough to come up to the house. (ironic yes?) Mostly we get chickadees, both chestnut back and plain, but today, we got a house finch, so I got him!

Composition-Content: This is good capture of a nice looking, colorful bird.
The Finch is the main focus of the shot.
I'm not crazy about the little branch nub on the lower edge right.
Background: The colors are very nice.
Camera Work-Technical: Exposure and light are good, but the focus is soft. I'm sure it's due to
the window glass. I'm not sure if a tripod was used here, but if not it's a steady hand.
My opinion: Good capture and good color. Of course better focus would of helped this shot, but over all
it's very nice.

What a fantastic capture! Great use of DOF, great background! A little grainy but wonderful picture.

This is a great capture of this bird. Everything is perfect except for a little too many JPEG artifacts. Makes it look a little fuzzy.

good crop. Seems a little pixelated. Did you use digital zoom?

So crisp! I love the hint of red peeking out from under the wing near his/her tail.

Seems a bit low res, but other than that the DOF is nice and the framing is great. The colours seem a bit muddy, but boosting them would only increase the noise. Maybe it would be nice in black and white?

Updated to say: This is what I got when I converted it to black and white out of curiosity: //lisa3d.org/images/photos/dpc/birdBW.jpg. I also adjusted the levels, and did a little trick of duplicating a layer, blurring it, turning down the opacity to about 50%, and flattening the photo again. Then I sharpened it a bit. It made it a little less pixellated.

Good closeup. There appears to be some over sharpening around the bird as well as noise in the background. The composition is good, I'd like to see the red enhanced a little more so the bird's chest and head really jump off the screen.

Nice composition, but there isn't enough detail in the eyes and feathers to make it an outstanding image of a finch. Colors are real good. The bg works very well. If it was just a bit lighter more detail would be visible...I think.

great wildlife shot. it's oversharpened, and there is a green cast.

Nice use of DOF, though the image seems a bit pixelated.

This picture is a little grainy. Its not really clear either as I think it could be, which would make this a much better picture. - Inspzil

I might be getting picky here, but I with that the focus was just a TAD sharper on the bird. You have done a great job with the blurred background. It creates an atmosphere where the bird stands out nicely, and is not disturbed by anything in the background. I like how you have positioned the bird within the photo, and the stick is also positioned nicely. I wonder what kind of effect it would have on the photo if there were a bit more space in front of the bird, to make it look less like he was staring directly into a wall (edge of the photo). Somthing to try anyway. Good luck in the challenge.

Absolutely beautiful! Either you have a great zoom or you got pretty darn close! Either way, a very nice shot. 9. lhall

I love the blured background here. The details on the finch don't seem to be very strong though. It seems like the focus could be adjusted slightly to bring out more definition in the feathers. I like the framing of the branch and how the bird almost remains in the lower left half of the photo. Very nice = 7

nice comp, a little grainy and color cast.

Really grainy. I'm guessing digital zoom? It'd be a really nice picture if not for the grain.

Nice capture. I have them here in Oregon. Hungry this time of year and plenty of them. Good composition, color and I like the background. The focus is soft and the branch at the bottome sticking up is distracting.

A great capture. The fuzziness and artifacting distract from the image, and the color seems washed out somewhat.
