| 08/17/2002 10:51:00 AM | One Dark Night...Then A New Challengeby jbolingComment: Too funny. I think I would have liked a bit more of a closer look at this. Got a lot of space to the right of the photo where there is nothing happening. However, if you didn't want to stand in the middle of the road to take a picture, I completely understand. lol Good luck with the challenge. |
| 08/17/2002 11:33:00 AM | Canary Wharf Underground Station, Opened 1999by ManicComment: Not being familiar with Wharfs, I looked this up and I think I found a site related to this Canary Wharf. It helped me to understand exactly what I was looking at and realized that this is probably an escalator. At first I thought it might be a bit dark, but when I tried lightening it up a bit, I noticed that it looked like there was someone standing in the large dark strip to the left and figured you darkened it up a bit to make that person kind of dissapear. I also notice lots of people over on the far left. That's why I thought it was an escalator. Hard to tell though without being able to see the individual stairs in the dark vertical grooves. The roof/ceiling is beautiful. I bet it casts some really cool shadows when the suns just right. This is a nice angle. Good shot and good luck in the challenge. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 08/18/2002 05:33:00 PM | Breaking it inby rll07Comment: cute idea. you can see the concentration on his face. Another way you could present a new glove is to show it banded shut with the ball inside next to a bottle of glove oil. I like how you did it too, with the little guy breaking it in. the clarity of the photo is great and the lighting is nice too. looks like he's been practicing hard with those rosy cheeks. nice shot and good luck with the challenge. |
| 08/15/2002 01:42:00 AM | Tired of Waitingby kathleenmComment: I like this photo a lot. It looks like it could be in a calendar or something. The only think that could make it slightly better would bet to level off the shelf with the picture. It's only slightly crooked, but with the contrast of the dark blue background to the white shelf, it kind of stands out more than it normally would. I know you were trying to get that white bears foot in there hanging off the edge a bit, but I think that because of the dark background on top, the white background on bottom shouldn't be showing, or should also be dark to enhance the overall balance. I like how the little brown bear just to the left of the white bear is cuddling with the white bear. Really gives the "awwww" feeling. There seems to be another white bear behind and to the right of the centered white bear and they kind of blend in with each other. The other bears are staggered in different colors and I like that, you can individually see each and every bear due to the different colors. Either no bear, or a dark bear would stand out better in place of the white bear in the back. This gives me an extreme sense of "new" and I'm giving it a high rating. More indirectly, the main focus is the white bear, and surrounding him with darker bears adds to the newness of the white bear by making him stand out. He kind of screams I'M NEW LOOK AT ME! And white being a stereotypical "new" color further adds to this. Great job and good luck in the challenge. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 08/18/2002 02:04:00 AM | Welcome to the tough wolrdby BaldurComment: Wow. That stands out so well from it's surroundings, it almost appears to jump right out of the photo. The background is pretty darn ugly, but I think that just adds to the actual subject in this case. I don't know what kind of plant it is, but it sure is pretty. Lighting is good and angle is good. I wish that bright white squarish thing wasn't in the top left corner, but there was probably nothing you could do about that. Congrats and good luck in the challenge. |
| 08/15/2002 12:03:00 PM | Birthday Presentsby GordonComment: Took me awhile to tell exactly what I was looking at here. I'm still not 100% sure, but looks like ear rings? I get the point of them being a birthday present making them new, but was there a box they came in? The bottom of the photo is pretty fuzzy. This could have been minimalized with a vertical shot rather than a diagnal shot. The glare from the lighting source is a little much, could you have bounced the flash? I know it's not possible to do that with my camera, so I can relate to exaggerated reflection. Something that I found that helped out my photos is to take the photo outside and use a thin white canopy between the sun and the subject. Or if the photo is taken indoors, put a thin tissue paper or cheesecloth between the light source and the subject. I even got a desirable result from taping a thin piece of white cloth directly onto the flash on my camera. Seemed to spread the light out a bit and make it less reflective in the photo. I liked the idea behind this photo very much and gave it above average rating. Great job and good luck in the challenge. |
| 08/18/2002 12:26:00 PM | coming soonby ibewillComment: This is a really cool looking structure. I'd call it a building, but it kind of looks like it has on overpass going over the road to the right. I could just be looking at it all wrong. My angle could be off. Definately depcits something new, and not too bad to look at. Lighting is good, not too dark, not too bright. I like trying to figure out exactly what it is. I hope you tell us when voting is said and done. Nice job and good luck with the challenge. |
| 08/12/2002 11:19:00 PM | Hannaby ShiiizzzamComment: I'm a really huge fan of black and white. But I think this one needed some color. Baby skin is so detailed and especially at birth when it can be a somewhat different color than it will ever be in the rest of her life. Her skin, and the color of her skin are brand new. It will never be that color again. Sounds cheesy, I know. Sorry. |
| 08/18/2002 05:13:00 PM | New Matchby RemieComment: Definately original. I like the creativness in this. The something new is very clear. Good photo, yes. Something I could look at for hours, no. A little bland for my taste. None the less, that does not mean that it's not a good photo. Lighting is great, angle is great and the point is very clear. Congrats and good luck in the challenge. |
| 08/18/2002 01:56:00 AM | The New Local Currencyby chakkobboComment: These coins we either sitting on a piece of cork board, or a hamburger. It's definately got some interesting texture. I like how the coins are set up like that. The angle is nice, however there seems to be a distracting bright spot towards the bottom left. I have heard of a trick to lessen bright spots and make the lighting more balenced out. Try putting a thin piece of cloth or thin paper between the subject and the light source. Still lets the light through but not as harshly. You can also use different colors of cloth or paper to create some really neat color effects. Good luck in the challenge. |
